Creating Our Future,\u202fthe\u202fGovernment-led campaign\u202fon the future\u202fof research in\u202fIreland,\u202ftoday\u202fannounced that\u00a0Ambassador Emer O\u2019Neill (Teacher, Author and Presenter of RT\u00c9\u2019s Today show and formerly Home School Hub)\u00a0will\u00a0host a discussion with a\u00a0range of\u00a0guests about the lived experiences of Ireland\u2019s black community in 2021 and what research is needed to understand and address the emerging issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boidu Sayeh (Westmeath Footballer), Cllr. Uruemu Adejinmi (Lord Major of Longford), Lilian Nwanze Akobo (PhD Student at Maynooth University and Irish Research Council Scholar) and others will join Emer on the panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will take place on Thursday, 25th<\/sup> November at 7:30PM at the Mermaid in Bray, Co. Wicklow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attendance at the event is free, but pre-registering on the website is required (IRELAND 2021: A Conversation About the Experiences of Ireland’s Black Community – Mermaid Arts Centre<\/a>).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conversation will also be livestreamed on the Mermaid\u2019s website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking ahead of the event<\/strong> <\/strong>Emer O\u2019Neill said:<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m really excited to be an ambassador for Creating Our Future and rightly this campaign is placing a focus on the experiences of diverse communities across Ireland. It\u2019s so important that we strive for a society that serves all of its people and addressing everyone\u2019s concerns. We are here to help researchers build that type of country.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis event in Wicklow will crown all of our efforts to make this campaign as inclusive and diverse as we possibly can. I urge as many people to get involved as possible and I look forward to engaging with everyone at the Mermaid and on the livestream. This is a real opportunity for us to shape the future of Ireland.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Creating Our Future<\/u><\/em>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dubbed Ireland\u2019s\u202fBiggest Brainstorm, Creating Our Future has now entered\u202fits\u202ffinal month for receiving submissions from the public.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign has received more than\u202f7,000 submissions so far and aims to secure 10,000 by the closing date\u202fof\u202f30th<\/sup>\u202fNovember 2021.\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The submissions\u202freceived to date have come\u202ffrom members of the general public submitting\u202fboth\u202fdirectly on the campaign website or through engagement with the\u202fCreating Our Future\u202fTeam.\u202fCreating Our\u202fFuture\u202ftravelled to every county in Ireland with a roadshow in October.\u202f\u202f <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ideas can be submitted\u00a0directly on\u202fcreatingourfuture.ie<\/a>\u202fbefore midnight on the\u202f30th<\/sup>\u202fNovember 2021or on postcards provided at brainstorms and Creating Our Future roadshows\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the ideas\/suggestions received\u202fare\u202fcompiled, filtered, and\u202fcategorised\u202fby independent experts from a broad range of backgrounds.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
